Anime Series Review: Death Note

Directed by Tetsurō Araki

Proceeding from the previous Death Note Episode 1, Light Yagami is in possession of the lethal Death Note. After indirectly killing Raye Penber and the other twelve FBI agents working on the Kira Case in Japan, he thinks that no one can uncover Kira's identity. But his joy abruptly comes to an end when he finds out that Raye's fiancé was formerly an adept and creative FBI Agent, and gathers crucial information about Kira that could put Light behind bars. To add insult to injury, L finally reveals himself to the FBI to work directly on the Kira case with the FBI. With people after his tail again, will Light be able to steer his way out of this quandary?

Overall, I found this episode amazing as Light's character development was astonishing, from a smart ace student to a clever psychopath. The twists and turns are amazing, the visuals are on point, and the dialogues are from a realistic perspective. Ryuk has a dark yet great sense of humour, and L or Ryuzaki's intellect and solution to every downfall are astonishing yet witty at the same time. The visuals and graphics were on point. What I like the most about this manga is its irresistible charm, and it feels like a realistic criminal case investigation book, except it mentions Death Gods and Shinigami. But one thing I would say about this episode is that some of the dialogues are slightly repetitive, and they always make the mood of the episode gloomy, but most of the time, it has this mysterious and magnetic allure which stops me from turning off the TV. To conclude, I would give it a 4.9/5.
