Our purpose is to promote and enhance the services provided by the Oshawa Public Libraries through fundraising, advocacy, and volunteer engagement.
Fundraising
The Friends of the Library conducts used-book sales, usually twice a year, in the auditorium at the McLaughlin branch. Throughout the year, a selection of used books and magazines is available for sale at all four branches. Customers can choose a book and donate to the Library through the Friends. No contribution is too small!
2026 Book Sale Dates:
Fall Reads Book Sale - Thursday, September 17 to Saturday, September 19
Thursday / September 17 / 9:30 am-7:30 pm
Friday / September 18 / 9:30 am-4:30 pm
Saturday / September 19 / 9:30 am-4:30 pm

Ramp access to the book sale is available on the west side of the building (Queen St.). The book sale can also be accessed from the Library's Children's department, with a few (stair) steps down to reach the Auditorium.
Please plan for the weather. Opening day is our busiest day, and there is often an outdoor line at the auditorium ramp as customers wait to enter the sale area. We recommend dressing appropriately for the conditions and accounting for additional paid parking time if required.

Donating Books to the Friends of the Library
Book donations can be dropped off at the south Shipping and Receiving entrance of the McLaughlin Branch, 65 Debwewin Miikan, during regular business hours. The Shipping and Receiving doors are locked. Please use the call button so staff can remotely unlock the door, giving you access to the dedicated donations shelving.
