By Holly Jackson
5 Stars
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, written by Holly Jackson, is about a senior student in high school named Pip. She is given an end-of-year project, and she decides to base it off of the unsolved murder mystery of her town from 5 years ago. I loved the personality shown in this story. The quirky characteristics of friends and the connection Ravi and Pip shared. Ravi is the brother of a person involved in the murder mystery / missing persons case. Ravi and Pip both have their connections to the victims of this case and dig deeper into a theory that doesn’t seem so far-fetched after all. As the mystery progressed, the energy of the writing changed for me. It became real. How these things aren’t too far off from the real world, and it felt eerie. The writing really immersed me in the book. Holly did a great job of keeping the mystery alive throughout the book while keeping it entertaining. I started to feel nervous, and the climax of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was definitely intense. Not once did I want to stop reading this book. Overall, it had great story progression, a great wrap-up of the story and a strong lead. I see why A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is well known. I would recommend this to anyone in the grades from 7-12. It would for sure be a great book club option to read as there are a lot of theories to be mentioned and points to be made. This book really caught my eye. Would definitely read it again.
