Book Review: All American Boys

By Jason Reynolds

5 Stars

All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely is a powerful novel that explores important topics like racism, fairness, and standing up for what is right. The story is told from the perspectives of two teenage boys, Rashad Butler and Quinn Collins. Both boys experience a serious event in their community that changes their views of the world and the people around them. As the novel continues, they learn more about themselves, their choices, and how their actions impact others. Something that stuck out to me was that the main characters feel real and relatable. Their thoughts and reactions to situations seem natural, like those of real teenagers. It's interesting to see how each boy experiences the same events differently. I also really enjoyed the writing style. It is straightforward, clear, and easy to follow, making the book very readable. Each chapter moves the story forward and deepens the book's message. The story moves at a good pace, so it never feels too slow or fast. The main themes shown in this novel are respect, courage, and doing what is right. All American Boys is an important and very well-written book that gives a strong story with a clear message. The characters are relatable to many teens, the story is engaging, and the themes are significant. It encourages readers to think about how people should treat each other and the importance of standing up for fairness. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys realistic stories with strong messages and relatable characters.
