By George Orwell
5 Stars
Animal Farm is an allegorical story by George Orwell about animals taking over a farm. After being abused by their old owner, they had had enough and chose to overthrow him. I love Animal Farm, and it’s
one of my most favourite books. It is a short novel that can easily be read in one sitting. Despite the almost simplicity of it, there’s a deeper meaning, and the deeper meaning is what makes this book so good. I personally really enjoy reading George Orwell’s novels, as they’re well-written and explain many flaws in society. Animal Farm has many unique characters that are based on real people, as well as scenes that are based on real events. It’s impossible to talk about the beauty of this novel without spoiling anything else. After reading it, it helped me understand more things about our society, and how some things aren’t what they seem. There’s little to nothing to critique about this story. Most of the story has a reason behind its existence in the first place. If you haven’t read Animal Farm at all, then you won’t be expecting the trajectory the story will take. The quotes are beautifully written. I do love allegories in general, especially if they point out things in real life such as politics or social issues that influence our world. I think literature is one of the best ways to talk about issues without being too direct or too sensitive. Anyway, if you haven’t read it yet, I recommend it!
