5 Stars
Before the Ever After by Jacqueline Woodson is a powerful and emotional novel that explores family, love, and strength. It tells the story of a young boy named Z.J., whose father was his hero and a former professional football player, who is experiencing memory loss and other health issues related to his football career. While Z.J.'s mother visits doctors with her husband in search of explanations, Z.J. attempts to keep his father close to him through music. The book takes us on a journey as Z.J. navigates his father's changing condition and learns to cope with the challenges it brings.
This book really touches the heart and makes you think deeply about the reality of the world. I highly enjoyed and recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick read but also something enjoyable! Trust me, you won't be disappointed! It was a fantastic story that was beautifully written and that all ages would enjoy! I enjoyed the friendship between Z.J. and his friends because it is evident that they were very strong and supportive. They are there for each other through thick and thin, providing comfort and understanding during difficult times. It's a heartwarming portrayal of friendship. It is a story that could correlate in some way to a person's life, and there is so much to learn from this story to be implemented into your life. It is such a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the story, but it is a meaningful and powerful book that will stick with you long after you finish reading it.
