Book Review: Blue Lock. 1

4 Stars

This awesome manga is the start of something crazy! It displays perseverance, morality, and evolution. The main character, Yoichi Isagi, is a young man who had just returned from a lost soccer game when he received a letter from a special training program. And from that moment onwards, everything in his life changed.

Everything in volume one of this screams action, and it completely changes your view on how to achieve success. What is needed is ego, not teamwork. “Sometimes, you must be selfish in order to advance” is practically the theme of it, and it undeniably works in some situations, and even in real life too.

What I especially like about it is the growth of the main character in only 4 chapters! Isagi, a timid boy who fights on for his teammates, had advanced into a stronger and more self-centred mindset. If this is just the first volume, who knows what’s to come!

And the art is super clean! The character designs all seem unique, the setting layout is pretty nice, and every scene is understandable! Emotional scenes, confident scenes– All of them were readable, even if they had no narration!

This manga would be perfect for someone looking for something action-packed and sporty, with a bit of depth to it too! Although this is just the first volume, there is still a lot more to come, and I can only hope that it will keep improving and evolving, just like the characters in the book itself.
