Bungo Stray Dogs is a Japanese manga series written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa that is about dark, sad times and full of action. The story started off with a young boy named Atsushi Nakajima, who used to live at an orphanage in Yokohama, Japan. He had then been isolated, went through severe abuse and lots of trauma; it remains unknown if he has biological parents. After Atsushi was kicked out of the Orphanage at the age of 18, it led to an extreme amount of hunger until he ended up meeting some unknown guy, named Osamu Dazai, whose body was upside down in the water, and later an assistant of Dazai named Doppo Kunikida. The two had an offer for Atsushi; how will Atsushi's life change?
I decided to read this because any anime with magic, power, and good characters with sad and dark backstories gets my attention, and I would say these manga series aren't so overrated.
For me, there wasn't anything I was really disappointed in; I just love how the characters are fighting for what's important to them. When I read the book, it started off with a really sad moment about the main character. There are a lot of sad moments in these manga series; this is just the first volume. And in my opinion, this is one of the best manga of all time.
Also, there are quite a lot of plot twists in the story that you wouldn't expect. This one scene that had me shocked and wondering why the author has added Atsushi having a monster live inside of him; that is probably a reason why he ended up with so much trauma? So, if you really love plot twist moments, then these series are for you.
Overall, this is a really awesome book; it only has 196 pages, which isn't very long, so I'd recommend this to any action manga fans.
