Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Third Wheel, penned by Jeff Kinney, is a delightful installment in the beloved children's series. Despite being aimed at younger readers, as a tenth grader, I found this book to be engaging and entertaining.
The story revolves around Greg Heffley's middle school experiences, particularly his quest for a date to the Valentine's Day dance. The humorous misadventures and awkward encounters Greg endures throughout the book kept me thoroughly entertained. Kinney's writing style seamlessly blends humour and relatable situations, capturing the essence of the middle school experience. 
One of the strengths of Third Wheel lies in its ability to resonate with readers of various ages. The themes of friendship, peer pressure, and anxiety surrounding school events are universally relatable. Kinney's clever use of diary entries, complemented by amusing illustrations, adds depth and humour to the narrative, making it a visually engaging read.
Furthermore, the book explores the complexities of adolescent relationships and the awkwardness of young love. Greg's attempts to navigate the unpredictable world of romance provide moments of hilarity and valuable life lessons about honesty and self-acceptance.
However, it is worth noting that the plot of Third Wheel follows a somewhat predictable trajectory. The formulaic structure, characteristic of the series, maybe less appealing to readers seeking more intricate storytelling.
