Eleven-year-old Remy Boltuck is ready for another memorable summer on Seagate Island. She cannot wait to be back with her friends, Bennett, Micayla, the twins, Calvin and Claire, and the dogs from their doggie day care business. But this summer won’t be quite as simple as usual. Remy’s friendship with Bennett has become rocky, Calvin and Claire’s parents may be getting divorced, and even things with her best friend, Micayla, are complicated. And with the possibility of a hurricane looming on the horizon, threatening her beloved island, everything seems to be changing all too fast for Remy. Can she figure out solutions to all these problems and make summer on Seagate Island an incredible as it always was before?
I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the Seagate Summers series. It was captivating and engaging, and Remy was a wonderfully honest and relatable character. I loved the different dynamics Remy had with each character, both young and old, human and canine. The lessons that she learns throughout the novel are impactful and practical for everyday life, as she learns how to adapt to changes and surprises in life. Additionally, I enjoyed how blunt and honest the narration was. Since it was written in first person from Remy’s point of view, it allows the reader to go deeper into the character and the story. This middle grade novel is a great read for any age.
