Book Review: Dragon Ops

By Mari Mancusi

3 stars

The book Dragon Ops is a sci-fi adventure about two siblings, Lan and Lilli, who get pulled into a virtual reality game that has malfunctioned and gone rogue. Gone was the fun game, now replaced by a dangerous adventure to fix a glitchy AI. Dragon traps them inside the game, forcing them to fight monsters, solve puzzles and race against time to escape.

I thought this book was really good. The entire 'stuck in a video game' theme was just so thrilling since I'm a big gamer. The fun and creative setting really had me turning pages until the end. The author didn't rush through at all and took his time with story building and plot creating. Even after that, the story was fast-paced but didn't feel rushed.

Both the characters were fun and easy to connect with since they are both big gamers, and I am a big gamer. The twists and plots were thrilling and kept me on my toes. The video game's description itself was also done very nicely and gave you a clear picture of the world around the two characters.

That said, Dragon Ops is definitely a book for gamers, teens, and younger readers. It's a fun, quick read with easy vocabulary. The book isn't boring nor too fast. It's just right and keeps you flipping pages until the end.
