By Lynn Painter
5 Stars
Fake Skating is the love story between past childhood friends Dani and Alec. This book is a cute, fluffy teen romance, but the characters felt so relatable and made you love them. Dani and Alex are characters whom you can resonate with to a high degree as they go through their final year of high school and the woes of it. The chemistry, characters, and plot were all perfect. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because at the beginning (before the tension started), it took a while for me to get into it. Yet these characters have such a realistic personality that helps you connect to them as you see the issues they deal with - anxiety, pressure, money issues - that you can't help but love this book. These past best friends reunited don't necessarily like each other at the start due to distance, misunderstandings and miscommunication, but they get more comfortable with each other and learn to grow through the semester. Lynn Painter and her ability to write cute romances, and finding a way to include her fake-dating arrangements, never gets old. This book has such strong chemistry that only childhood best friends could, and the natural slow burn of their feelings transforming from being kids to teenagers occurs in a cute way. This teenage romance and the way Lynn Painter intertwines moments of falling in love and dealing with real issues for teenagers is something that was really important to me.
