Fat Angie was an absolutely heart-wrenching read. Angie is a girl trying to find her place in a world full of bullies, hate, shaming, and so many more terrible things. As she navigates through this cruel and crazy world, she seeks someone to rely on. The author shows a strong representation of bullies and how victims survive the darkness it all brings. In my opinion, this book is definitely a must-read for all Middle School and High School students. Recognizing bullying, learning how to deal with it the right way, and seeking help and/or support are some of the most important things to teach children and teenagers. Therefore, the book Fat Angie even shows a clear understanding of exactly that. The book also shows an understanding of bullying and who may bully whom for whatever reason. Fat Angie represents the aspects and impact of bullying due to one's appearance, which tends to include stereotypes and bias. This is a huge issue in the world, and the book shares a wide variety of advocacy. The ending is extremely heartwarming - an incredibly happy ending for Angie, which made me really happy for her. Overall, I highly recommend this novel because it represents how bullying can hurt and impact anyone, as well as doing what it takes to speak up for yourself.
