Book Review: Float

By Kate Marchant

4 Stars

Float by Kate Marchant is a teenage romance book dealing with additional topics such as divorce, insecurity, friendship, relationships between teens and parents, swimming, loneliness, and isolation. This book can be relatable to awkward, inexperienced-in-love teens like me who've felt like they've never really belonged and try so hard to fit in somewhere where the world can accept them for who they are. It was a heartwarming book that I recommend to people 13+. I liked how the book was relatable, funny, and adorable, but one thing I didn't like was that at times I felt like the writing/characters were a bit overdramatic. Other than that, this book was amazing! I couldn't stop reading it as it was so entertaining! I loved Waverly's (the main character) humour. There were no boring parts of this book at all, which I think is impressive! The book was mainly about a 12th-grade girl from Alaska named Waverly who flies to Florida to stay with her aunt for a month due to issues regarding her separated parents. There, she meets Blake, her dreamy next-door neighbour and ends up being friends with him (after a while of disliking him) and his friends, while navigating the elements of friendship, love, growth, and drama.
