5 Stars

Haikyu!!, Japanese for "volleyball" is a series revolving around the sport of volleyball. Shoyo Hinata is a first-year student going to Karasuno High School, home of the legendary volleyball player, "The Little Giant," who inspired Hinata to play at Karasuno because of their similar heights. It's a wholesome series which shows clear teamwork, friendship, rivalry and the thrill of volleyball in a number of varying ways and how everyone values the sport. You fall in love with many of the characters who are closely relatable, and I don't lie, but - you might even want to start playing as well, haha! You can't even help but cheer for both teams or feel hyped just reading. A great read for anyone into sports, looking for comedy, slice of life or are interested in a sparking journey of becoming the best volleyball player. Conflicts within the series revolve around Hinata's love for volleyball and how he embraces his height, believing he can become the best volleyball player in the world, which sparks interest and catches the attention of many rival and big-shot schools. Considering that characters are frequently introduced, it's hard not to forget them for their unique playing styles and personalities, which contribute to how they play. An important part of Haikyu!! that makes it impact readers is that it's a sincere and simple story, following relatable circumstances and a love for supporting these varying characters. Would recommend both the manga and anime to anyone into sports or a change of pace from more regular shows any other day!
