If He Had Been With Me is a story you'll know that will end in tragedy from the very first chapter, yet it will still break your heart. The story follows Autumn Davis and her childhood best friend, Phineas or 'Finny.' They've been best friends since they were taken home from the hospital. But somewhere throughout the years they started to drift and went from childhood best friends to acquaintances. The argument that changed everything will linger through the story, and when it comes to it, you'll see why the story vs facts can affect what happens. The want to know what tore the friendship down will be in the back of your head as you read through. This story kept me intrigued from the very first page even though it's not full of action and mystery. I felt a connection between Autumn and myself as I read how High School can be draining and the push through it. As I was reading, I kept tissues by my side. This coming-of-age novel shows the intricacies that people face throughout High School, from the end of friendships to the creation of new ones, fights and how everything impacts everyday life. Autumn and Finny, although they haven't been together for very long, the evolution of friendship to their relationship and the love they shared will stay in your head. Their story is filled with love and heartbreak the way only love stories starting young can. It will make you feel things like devastation as you flip through the pages. If He Had Been With Me will turn into a book you'll love even though the ending doesn't go how you wish.
