5 Stars
One of Us Is Next by Karen M. McManus is an exciting return to Bayview High, picking up the story a year after the events of One of Us Is Lying. The sequel continues to unravel the lives of its characters, this time through a new game called Truth or Dare, played anonymously through an app. The pacing in this book is on point. It doesn't waste time dragging on with unnecessary details, and it doesn't rush through the plot either. It transitions smoothly. This makes it a page-turner that's hard to put down, and it's perfect for those who love a quick and exciting read. What I really liked about the book is how it breaks free from the usual high school stereotypes where everyone fits in neat little boxes. It's not just another story about the popular kids, the loners, the geeks, or the rebels.
The author takes these stereotypes and flips them, making characters more complex and unpredictable than I expected. The new game, Truth or Dare, adds an extra layer of excitement and suspense. It's like a modern twist on an old classic, but with serious consequences. The characters' responses to the dares reveal so much about them, and it is thrilling to see how far they're willing to go to protect their secrets or expose others. To sum it all up, I would give this book 5 stars, and if you like mystery and suspense, this book is for you.
