Book Review One Punch Man Vol. 8

By ONE and illustrated by Yusuke Murata

4 Stars

One Punch Man Vol. 8 is a continuation of the “King Arc” and leads into the “Garou Introduction Arc.” This volume is once again written by ONE and illustrated by Yusuke Murata, who yet again delivers with his masterful ark works in this Manga. As you might imagine, due to this volume covering the “King Arc,” the volume focuses on King and the rest of the side cast compared to the usual, more focused on the protagonist as previous volumes were.

Though that does not take away any joy I have had from reading the series, in fact, I find this volume to be quite comical in a way, especially with King’s character and how ONE has written him. This volume also gives more pieces of information about the other side characters, such as Genos, from the previous volumes, which brings more depth to the side cast where it may have been lacking before by just focusing on Saitama. The villains are no exception to this, with a few, such as Garou, getting more backstory in this volume. This allowed me to find more joy in reading into the villains and makes them feel much more than one-dimensional villains that tend to die in the chapter they are introduced in. Making this volume feel much more like a turning point in the story where there will be much more interesting and recurring villains as ONE’s writing further improves as the story develops. Overall, I found this volume to be quite the adventure and change from the usual One Punch Man “Meta” storyline as this volume has amazing villains, which you may even route for more than the heroes themselves. This volume is a solid 4.1/5 and is quite well done.
