Book Review: Out of My Mind

By Sharon M. Draper

5 Stars

I can't stop smiling and feeling overwhelmed by the magnificent adventure I just had within the pages of Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. This book has moved me in ways I never imagined, and I am amazed at the power it possesses. Melody, the exceptional protagonist, is one of the characters who actually stole my heart. Melody is a young girl with cerebral palsy, a disability that prevents her from walking or talking. However, beneath her physical restrictions is a brilliant mind, brimming with brilliance and a strong desire to communicate with the rest of the world. As I observed Melody's unshakable perseverance and resilience in the face of hardship, I felt an instant connection with her. Her enthusiasm for learning and her brilliant imagination captured me, and I found myself rooting for her at every turn. The excellent characterization in Out of My Mind was what impressed me the most. Sharon M. Draper has created characters with considerable depth. Each character adds a layer of reality to the story, making it feel immensely real, from her loving parents who never give up on her to her outgoing and joyful instructor. Out of My Mind goes further into the difficulties that people with disabilities face in a society that frequently fails to accommodate them. It made me think about the barriers that exist and the changes that need to be made to make the world more inclusive. Overall, reading Out of My Mind was a profound experience. It opened my eyes to the hardships and accomplishments of people with disabilities, and it left a lasting impression on my worldview. Sharon M. Draper's receptive storytelling and captivating characters elevated this book to the level of a masterpiece, and I would suggest it to anybody looking for a profound and thought-provoking read.
