Book Review: Restart

By Gordon Korman

5 stars

I always like starting my reviews with trigger warnings so the content doesn’t come off as a surprise and completely derail the reader from reading the book. This book contains bullying. If this topic makes you uncomfortable, I definitely recommend another one since this is a huge thing mentioned in the book. This book was one of my favourite books in middle school because I really liked the symbolism and messages in this story. So I decided to re-read the book a few years later, and I can say it’s aged delightfully and is even better to apply to today rather than six years ago. The genres in this book are action, comedy, and mystery. The setting for this book is 2017 in Georgia, in a smaller town where everyone knows the main character. I generally like the characters because they all have justified emotions in certain instances during the book. They’re also relatable and funny in certain scenarios. Even though there’s one main character in the book (Chase), there are about five different P.O.Vs mentioned in the whole book, with their perspectives being laid out like a diary.

The book is completely balanced with cute funny moments, to serious down to earth moments as well. Even though this book has serious themes it’s generally a super fun read that I recommend for people who are into the genres mentioned, especially mystery. The age rating for this book in my opinion is 12 years and older, because I feel like it makes you see so many perspectives at such a young age. It’s also the age when I read the book as well!
