Six of Crows is a story about six thieves living in the city of Ketterdam who work together to steal a valuable prize from the ice court- one of the most impossible places to break into.
Six of Crows is a wonderful, found-family book wherein six teenagers with varying traumatic instances must learn to trust each other in life-or-death situations.
Leigh Bardugo masterfully crafts the world of Ketterdam, a bustling metropolis full of thugs and thieves. It is incredible how she uses a careful choice of words to bring the world to life and create such a complex yet easy-to-follow heist. Planning a heist can be difficult, considering how many ways the plan could go wrong. But Leigh Bardugo does it all perfectly, making you feel like you're part of the action too.
Leigh also crafts such in-depth characters. The book is told from the point of view of each character, and she makes them so wildly different from each other, yet they have enough in common to slowly become friends. The characters are all interesting to read about and are so easy to fall in love with (despite at least half of them being merciless killers).
The only con for Six of Crows, I would say, is that it sometimes can be a difficult read. Depending on your reading level, the wording is very advanced, and she uses terms from 'The Grishaverse', a universe first created in her original trilogy, Shadow and Bone. I recommend reading Shadow and Bone before Six of Crows because it would make it easier to understand. Otherwise, it is not a must.
In conclusion, Six of Crows is a wonderfully crafted story about trust, friendships, love, grudges and some good old-fashioned crime! I highly recommend this book.
TW: Mentions brothels, gore, some swearing.
