At the start of the book, a prison barge named The Purge is seen cruising across space. After the ship suffers a breakdown, causing it to be idle, the crew discovers an abandoned Star Destroyer, planning to use its wasted materials. However, what was meant to be a simple in-and-out mission quickly turns into a nightmare.
