Book Review: Star Wars: Red Harvest

By Joe Schreiber

4 Stars

The exciting Star Wars: Red Harvest, written by Joe Schreiber, expands the Star Wars universe. This horror book, which takes place during the Old Republic, offers a unique twist on the usual Star Wars narrative by combining elements of horror with science fiction.

The story focuses on Hestizo Trace, a Jedi farmer with the unique ability to talk to plants, and her Jedi Knight brother Rojo. They get caught up in an evil plan that is being organized by the Sith Lord Darth Scabrous, who has his sights on becoming immortal. Darth Scabrous finds a unique black orchid that Hestizo has raised and hopes to use it to unlock the secret to perpetual life. But his experiments backfire terribly, causing the Sith Academy to become overrun by zombies.

The reader is kept on the edge of their seats by Schreiber's descriptive and engaging choice of words, which creates an eerie and symbolic background. The novel stands out especially among the Star Wars lore because it is full of action, genuine horror, and suspense. Due to how well-developed the characters are, readers are sure to be rooting for Hestizo and Rojo as they struggle to survive and make their way through the disorder.

Red Harvest presents a fresh and fascinating perspective, even though it differs from typical Star Wars adventures. With a gripping plot that combines the greatest elements of both science fiction and horror, this book is ideal for middle school readers who enjoy both genres.
