The Apothecary Diaries is a story about a young lady named Maomao. She is a very intelligent and clever person who works with medicine and many kinds of poisons. In the story, Maomao gets kidnapped and is unwillingly sent to the emperor's palace to work and serve there as a maid. She starts off as a maid in the rear palace until her sharp knowledge in medicine and pharmacy skills gets noticed. She eventually starts working as a food taste tester. Her main job was to taste foods and detect if any kind of poison was in them, and prevent any accidents that could potentially happen. With Maomao's strange abilities, she is able to help solve mysteries and strange illnesses within the palace. I really enjoy reading this series as it portrays Maomao's personality as a smart, curious, and crazy girl, not afraid to speak her mind. If you enjoy reading mystery, drama, historical fiction, and a hint of romance stories, then I would highly recommend this series! The art style in both the manga series and anime is very clean and detailed, which I find satisfying to look at. As of now, the show only has 2 seasons; however, a movie and season 3 are confirmed to come out sometime around the end of next year! I am very excited and genuinely can't wait for it to come out. My friend also really enjoys this series, mainly because it's the only series that keeps us both hooked. We have opposite preferences when it comes to reading or watching a show, so whenever we talk about it, we always get very excited!
