Book Review: The Naturals

By Jennifer Lynn Barnes

4 Stars

Such a good series. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is one amazing author at keeping you guessing. The introduction to these characters, the plot, and their past lives is one that will keep you tuned to the story. I absolutely fell in love with these characters as I found more about them throughout reading about solving the case. This story follows Cassie as she joins a group of teenage 'naturals' who use their skills at the FBI to help solve cases hidden away from people. I started this book after being in a reading slump, and this book dragged me from the depths of it. This is a short chapter, a fast-paced story and something that had me flipping through pages as fast as I could to help uncover more details of the case. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is the queen of plot twists, and every time I thought I figured something out, she twisted the details and left me guessing. Cassie's new to the group, so you don't (at first) know much about the other characters, but as she gets to know them and becomes a part of the group, you grow to love each and every one of them, even though they aren't always particularly 'nice' (i.e., Lia Zhang). These characters have such tragic backstories, and The Naturals is a great introduction to who they are. I had so many theories throughout this book about who'd be the killer, but I'll gladly say that I was so shocked when everything came to a close.
