Book Review: The Night Gardener

By Jonathan Auxier

5 Stars

The Night Gardener was such an exciting read. A lot of plot twists right at the moment the reader would least expect. It is a scary story about two twins who begin to work for a family in a mansion that actually turns out to have some sort of curse. As they try to put puzzle pieces together and figure out why things are as creepy as they are, the book takes so many terrifying turns. The two protagonists remain determined to find out what is going on. The theme is very interesting - a lot of dark atmospheric representations and so many people that seem as though they are from a different time Era. This makes the story even scarier. As it does have some violence in it, the novel is still a great read. Once I looked at the cover, I knew I had to read it. The cover itself represents a lot of Jonathan Auxier's ideas for the book, which also gives a creepy vibe. The dark colours and imagery literally grab the reader's attention in a second! I highly recommend this book to all Fantasy-Horror seekers out there. Therefore, there are many edges of fantasy fiction in the novel, too. The way all the symbolism connects to the horror created such an elaborate image of whatever chapter I was reading, as well as every character. Jonathan Auxier does great work with imagery as well! I think that creating an image in the reader's head via the context and symbolism in the novel is such an awesome skill to have when gaining the reader's attention. Overall, it is an absolutely wonderful and completely awesome novel, and I beg all bookworms to read it!
