5 Stars
The Reappearance of Rachel Price is about a girl named Bel whose mother, Rachel Price, went missing when she was only two years old. When Rachel suddenly reappears sixteen years later, Bel is certain she is lying about where she had been.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price is an excellent story about the bond between a mother and daughter, and the importance of family. It retains all of this while also being an enrapturing mystery. The book's pace is excellent, and every word is important to the plot. There isn't a single throwaway sentence whatsoever.
Holly Jackson has a gift for writing stories with relevant clues, in-depth characters, riveting adventures, and of course, a plot twist nobody could see coming!
The Reappearance of Rachel Price also includes a heartwarming family bond. The family's tragedies are a little sad, but one you'll grow to love as the story goes on. It's incredible how she takes the lives of a seemingly normal extended family and unveils the mysteries behind it. It makes you wonder what sort of secrets your own family has.
Besides the intense family dynamics, The Reappearance of Rachel Price is a layered, complicated mystery, but Holly Jackson makes it easy to follow. She is excellent at laying out all the clues you need to solve the mystery, but still leaves you scratching your head thinking, "How did I not get that!"
Just a warning, though, the book does cover some sensitive topics, including kidnappings and manipulation, and it has quite a bit of severe language. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone under the age of 13.
Other than that, The Reappearance of Rachel Price is a beautifully written book, and if you enjoy mystery, it is definitely one I would recommend!
