The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen is a captivating and dark story that also has many hilarious aspects and lines in it. A very traumatic and heartbreaking event happens in the main character's life. It changes Henry's life and causes many challenges for him to overcome. The book is about how he overcomes this trauma and copes with it. He has friends, a therapist, and his dad, who support him through it.
The genre of this book is diary fiction, and it is for readers 10 and up. In my opinion, The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen is a great book and is really well written. The main event of the story is a compelling mystery that is slowly revealed throughout the story. The book has excellent depictions of what it is like to find one's true self. It includes struggles in the lives of teenagers and middle schoolers as well. The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen has a good mix of melodrama and comedy, which I think many people can enjoy. It brings light to some dark aspects of life and has a genuine and empathetic portrayal of life's encounters. The book also spreads awareness about bullying and mental health. It is a good book for ages 13 and up because although it is a comedy, it is quite a dark book. It is also a great book for people with separated parents to read because they might be able to relate to it. In conclusion, this book is a powerful depiction of the exploration of one's true self.
