The story of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, follows the past love stories of Evelyn, even her secret one. Evelyn is a movie star actor that has been in the show biz since she was young. She hustled her way in and knew just what to say and do. The book is about her retelling her life stories to a young magazine reporter named Monique Grant. At first, I wasn’t a huge fan of Monique as she seemed quite uninteresting. But as the story went on, her significance became clear. Because Monique didn’t pique my interest in the beginning, it took me a bit to get started until I met Evelyn. Luckily, Evelyn Hugo is introduced in the third chapter. It’s like the book described. She just grabs the attention even when she’s not trying, and that is exactly what happened when she was introduced to me. I instantly wanted to read more. There was something about her that made the book just fly by. I loved how we went through her story and the “chapters” of her life. Each important section with her husbands kept the story going. Some husbands made her who she is. She is a strong female lead who knows what she wants. Taylor ceases to amaze me with this read. There is never a dull moment with superstar Evelyn Hugo. The ending was everything I could have asked for personally. The pacing was well done, and the aura of the book made me feel like I was watching a movie. It was so sweet, tender, and heartbreaking at times. This book makes my heart ache and feel warm all at once. 5 stars to Taylor Jenkins Reid.
