4 Stars
The book The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong talks about a 15-year-old girl named Chloe who has the ability to see and connect with ghosts. Due to a haunting encounter with a ghoulish creature at school, she gets called crazy and deals with her aunt and dad at home. Her dad and aunt finalize the decision, stating that she gets sent to a boarding house for disturbed kids called the Lyle House. But the more time she spends there, the more terrifying secrets she slowly starts to uncover. Her friends disappear. Now Chloe, along with her two comrades, begins solving the mystery behind the pleasant-looking Lyle House and interpreting the messages the ghosts are trying to communicate to her. It is a wonderful thriller with spine-tingling twists and turns, portrayed beautifully with Armstrong's powerful writing.
Personally, I loved the writing style, and it kept me hooked till the end. The character's development was realistic but the ending threw me off since it had amazing potential to get the readers longing for more. The storyline was exactly what I would look for in a murder/mystery book; I loved the way the author gave justice to the role of each character, allowing all of them to shine as the protagonist or antagonist. In some chapters, I feel that it was lacking a bit since it could have had a better twist relating to them since I felt some parts of the plot were simply confusing and did not connect with the storyline at all. But overall, I would rate this four stars and would recommend this book to anyone.
