Book Review: The Tales of Beedle the Bard

By J.K. Rowling

4 Stars

J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a collection of five fairy tales that have been told to wizards' and witches' children that include important life lessons conveyed by means of magic. Every one of these teaches a moral lesson as fairy tales do in the real world.

There are stories of wizards, witches, and magical beings who grace the world; characters are placed into whimsical situations where challenges test them, and they learn from their mistakes. The book also holds commentary by Professor Dumbledore, giving an interpretation of the magical meaning in each tale. These stories have been around within the wizarding world and provide the reader insight into the values and beliefs of magic people for centuries.

This book is a lovely, whimsical book, especially for people who like fairy tales, which this story ought to make a magical twist. The way the stories are told is very simple, yet they carry so much meaning beneath. J.K. Rowling makes each story come to life with all the excitement, yet all the stories are short and enjoyable. The notes from Dumbledore even add more details about the actual meaning behind the tales.

This book might have been intended for a much younger audience, but I found it charming and very cool after having read it somewhere in the Harry Potter books.

Overall, it's a solid read for any Harry Potter fan or a person who enjoys magic with stories having secret life lessons. It is simple to get through and stays in the reader's mind, making it a great pick to include in any book collection.
