The Wizenard Series: Training Campby Kobe Bryant and Wesley King is a mix of basketball and magic, which honestly, I didn’t think would work, but it does. It’s about this team, the West Bottom Badgers, and they’re… not great. Then Coach Rolabi Wizenard shows up, and training gets super weird. Like, magical weird. But it’s not just about winning games—it’s about the players figuring out their own problems.
Each chapter is told by a different player. At first, I kept forgetting who was who, but then I started to like it because you see what’s in their heads. Some are scared of failing, some are angry, and some just want to prove themselves. It made them feel more real than just “basketball characters.”
The cool thing is the magic isn’t random—it’s kind of like lessons in disguise. And some parts actually got me thinking about my own goals, which I didn’t expect from a sports book.
It’s not perfect. Sometimes it jumps around a lot, and I had to reread a part or two. And I wish there was more actual game action. But the stuff it teaches about teamwork and believing in yourself is solid.
If you’re into sports, fantasy, or both, I think you’d enjoy it. It’s fun, different, and made me want to go work on my own “training camp” in real life.
