Twisted Love by Ana Huang is a compelling romance that kicks off the Twisted series with a tale of love and revenge. The story revolves around Alex Volkov, a wealthy CEO and emotionally detached man on a mission for revenge. And Ava Chen, his best friend's sister, who is a free-spirited photographer and the complete opposite of him, with her bright and cheerful demeanour, who is dealing with her own traumas and fears. Tasked with looking after Ava while her brother is away, Alex finds himself drawn to her in ways he hadn't anticipated. I loved how the characters of Alex and Ava had such distinct personalities and backstories, which added depth to the narrative and made the plot more interesting. Their chemistry is palpable, making their evolving relationship engaging and their interactions filled with tension and genuine emotion. That said, the book isn't without its critiques. At times, the plot felt a bit predictable. Some twists and turns were foreshadowed too heavily, which took away from the element of surprise. Additionally, while the dark, intense love story between Ava and Alex is gripping, there were moments when the angst felt a bit over the top. Some of the drama seemed exaggerated, which occasionally pulled me out of the story. It is a perfect book for those who love the "grumpy x sunshine trope," with a satisfying amount of grovelling by Alex towards the end. Twisted Love offers a compelling mix of romance and suspense, with well-developed characters and an engaging plot. While it has its flaws, the book's intense love story and plot twists that keep you hooked and on edge the entire time is definitely worth reading!
