Book Review: Wish Upon a Sleepover

4 stars

Wish Upon a Sleepover is a fiction book following Leilani, a young girl who wants nothing more than to be friends with the popular kids at her school, known as the Haileys: a group of girls with similar names who have sleepovers every single weekend, all with a theme. This time, Leilani decides that this will be the year she finally becomes friends with the Haileys and joins their group with a luau-themed sleepover, bringing in her heritage to this party. But it all goes wrong when her grandmother, Tutu, invites the wrong group of people to her party. The kid lives on the 3rd floor, her cousin and manga girl, along with her best friend, Autumn. Despite her now ruined party, Leilani continues on, getting an idea from Tutu to make sleepover soup, a magical Hawaiian recipe passed down from mother to daughter.

This book is very interesting, and in terms of character development, it is very good, with the main character undergoing major development by the end of the book. The main storyline involves Leilani learning to grow as a person and be a better friend to both Autumn and all of her new friends, after a long and emotion-packed scavenger hunt. Along with that, Leilani learns to be less judgmental of others, especially her friends, as by the end, she learns to understand them better. Overall, this book is an emotion-packed book with amazing characters and an interesting plot to it; I highly recommend it.
