Movie Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Directed by James Gunn

5 Stars

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 follows Peter Quill and the rest of his crew as they somehow manage to anger half the galaxy. When a man comes along claiming to be Quill's birth father, Quill struggles to let his guard down long enough to enjoy it.

What I really loved about this movie was seeing how all the characters interacted with each other. Nebula and Gamora's intense sister rivalry was exciting and a little too relatable. Mantis and Drax's weird alien friendship was hilarious and abnormal, but also shockingly wholesome at times. Every single character, from Gamora to Kraglin, is iconic. The beginning credits scene is one of the most iconic ways to start a movie that I've personally watched, because it introduces our characters and their personalities, as well as giving us a taste of the exciting action that the movie contains.

On that topic, if you're more interested in action than the characters, this movie is chock-full of high-quality effects and well-choreographed fight scenes, especially near the end. This superhero sci-fi comedy is the best of both worlds. I am usually not a big fan of sci-fi or action movies, but I loved this one, and I know people who prefer action over characters and still loved it. It's perfectly dramatic at times, and the plot twists are intense. All in all, I give this movie 5 stars out of 5. I'm someone who, unfortunately, gets bored quite easily, but this movie held my interest for over two hours and instantly made it onto my rewatch list.
