Spider-Man: Homecoming features fifteen-year-old Peter Parker as he struggles to balance both his secret superhero identity, Spider-Man, and his social life at school. When he finds out about dangerous and illegal weapon dealing going on in his city, he has to choose between his crush, Liz, and the right thing to do. This movie is one of my all-time favourite films. It shows the struggles of being a superhero, while still keeping a mostly lighthearted, coming-of-age vibe. This movie is hilarious, emotional, and symbolic of what true good looks like. The conflicts are compelling, the action is exciting, and the characters are extremely lovable. I love seeing the way that Peter truly cares about his community through characters like Mr. Delmar and Ned. I love that Peter is really just a nerdy kid who wants to hang out with his friends and go to homecoming and be normal. I love how he represents every awkward, outcast teen through his need for approval from Tony Stark, Happy and Liz. It is oddly comforting to see such a strong and cool superhero still be human and make mistakes. All in all, this is an incredibly well-made movie that makes me laugh and cry. It’s a great first solo movie for his character because it finds the perfect balance between exploring who he is behind the mask and showing who he wants to be with the mask. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes superheroes that mess up sometimes, but who always take responsibility for their actions and fix them.
