Tokyo Ghoul is a beautiful, emotional horror and action series written by a Japanese manga artist named Sui Ishida. Tokyo Ghoul follows the story of a young man named Ken Kaneki who went to hang without with his best friend, named Hideyoshi Nagachika (Hide for short), at a cafe. Kaneki was talking to Hide that he had a date with a girl, so after an hour, Kaneki decided to go out with her. The girl's name was Rize Kamishiro. Though that all changes, as around Tokyo, there have been rumours of ghouls. Tokyo is the largest city and capital of Japan, and in the book, any wild things can happen. Ghouls are creatures that cannot eat real food. If they do, they will vomit and find it gross. (I will not explain what else they do because it will be disturbing; find out the rest in the manga.) When Kaneki was walking Rize home, they stopped on the way, and Rize started privately confessing to Kaneki. This is where it changes. Rize caught Kaneki in a trap and bit him; Rize was secretly a Ghoul. Now, the characters that are human and Ghoul are all extremely dynamic, and I find myself more attached to the cast as I read, especially the main protagonist, Ken Kaneki. In the story, he goes through such dark times, and it's very sad that he ended up being tortured a lot, as I read through the manga. The other characters also have sad backstories, in which I can't help but feel sympathy for them.
This manga is the first manga I found that was a true masterpiece rather than its anime. What I liked about this was that this is exactly like Attack on Titan. I would recommend this to any other manga fans out there. Rating: 5✨
