Mariokart 8 Deluxe is a fast, fun, and chaotic racing game on the Nintendo Switch. This is a sequel to the original Mariokart 8 on the Wii U. The difference is more characters and a revamped battle mode. You race as iconic characters such as Mario, Link, and Bowser, driving across familiar tracks while throwing and dodging shells. What makes the game popular is how easy it is to learn and master. For somebody new to racing games or familiar with them, the controls are easy to learn and responsive. The courses are well thought out and have twists and surprises at times. Some dive underwater, some fly through the air, and some do both. Plus, this game is very polished looking; in the background, you can always see details. The songs and music are amazing. The music is upbeat and matches the race; when going underwater, the music sounds echoed and quieter, and when you are hit with an item, making you smaller, the music becomes more high-pitched. The largest difference between the Switch version and the Wii U is the booster course pass, which adds 48 extra tracks, pretty much doubling the original amount. These were released in six waves and bring back old tracks. On the downside, the item system can feel unfair at times, especially when you're hit right before the finish line. While the longtime players might want something extra, the game is still one of the best party games on the Switch. Even with the DLC, the game is bigger and better. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves racing and who wants to have fun with friends.
