I like starting my reviews with a trigger warning so you don’t get worried or shocked when reading. This book contains the topics of death and grieving for loved ones; if you are uncomfortable with both of these topics, this book is probably not for you. If I had to choose a book of the year for me, personally it would definitely have to be this one! This book is for people who like the action, mystery, romance, and fantasy genres. The book has a prince and pauper layout in the beginning but just with two girls (the protagonists) instead, but don’t worry, it isn’t like this for the whole book; the story gets extremely action-packed from there! In terms of the setting, the book seems to be in between 17th-19th France, with only some steampunk elements, but not too many elements from that era to make it truly steampunk.
The book itself kind of gives you hope for the main characters, and it’s also laid out like it wants to give you more information about them, but only in small spaces. So, definitely re-read certain parts so you don’t get confused by super-important elements in the story. In terms of romance, I absolutely love the healthy and cute relationships that the readers may relate to! The book has a lot of plot twists that make sense to the whole story and add to the fantasy-like world that literally makes you gasp in actual shock! The book might be long for you depending on how quickly you read, but probably 2-5 hours in total. The age rating is 14 and up for the certain elements mentioned, and the content having heavy moments.
