Book Review: Twin Crowns

By Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber

5 Stars

Twin Crowns is a magical Young Adult fantasy that begins with a gripping premise: two twins, separated at birth, find themselves caught in royal destiny, witchcraft, and political chaos. One grows up as a sheltered princess, while the other is raised by witches, brimming with enough confidence to empower an entire kingdom. What I loved most was how the authors balance fantasy adventure with genuinely funny character moments. One sister is the "sunshine princess who just wants everyone to calm down." The other is the "feral enchantress with main-character energy." This contrast is the highlight of the story. Their alternating chapters feel like switching between herbal tea and a shot of espresso; both are enjoyable, but for very different moods. Readers will appreciate this book if they enjoy entertaining fantasy without being overly light. The book has magic, danger, and romance. The worldbuilding is easy to grasp, the magic system is straightforward, and the pacing is engaging. If you enjoy sister dynamics, particularly those filled with a mix of affection, chaos, and “I love you, but please stop making my life harder,” you’ll be excited. The book isn’t trying to change the fantasy genre, but it aims to provide an enjoyable experience, and it succeeds. It suits readers looking for adventure with heart, humor, and heroines who grow into their power. If you like witches, royal drama, or dual-perspective stories that feel like switching between two equally entertaining TV channels, Twin Crowns is a wonderfully bingeable choice.
