Movie Review: Interstellar

Directed by Christopher Nolan

5 Stars

Interstellar, in my opinion, is one of the best (if not THE best) movies ever made. It was directed by Cristopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey as the main character (Cooper), who is an engineer and also a dad. The most important side characters are Anne Hathaway, who is Brand, the daughter of a scientist at NASA (Professor Brand, also Michael Caine). The movie also stars Cooper's daughter Murph, who goes from Mackenzie Foy to Jessica Chastain and then finally to Ellen Burstyn. Then there is his son Tom, who goes from a teenage Timothee Chalamet to a middle-aged Casey Affleck. There's also the only funny element in this movie, Dr. Mann (Matt Damon), who is starring as the first innocent but evil character who just wants to go back home.

I think that it does have a lot of similarities to other movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey, hence the rotten tomatoes rating of 73%. However, there are a few different things in this movie, my favourite of which is the fact that there is no real villain. All they are fighting for is time. I don't count Dr. Mann as a villain because he never really did much; for me, he was just a breather from the rest of the movie. The amazing music, accompanied by the great acting and captivating plot, makes me rate this movie at a podium, winning 9.5. I've always been a huge fan of Nolan's work and excited of what's to come in the future. 10/10
