My Best Friend, Maybe

By Caela Carter

5 Stars

My Best Friend, Maybe is an emotional rollercoaster of a story. The story is told by Collette Jacobs. Collette is a junior in high school who is on her summer vacation. She had her whole vacation planned out with her boyfriend Mark when her old best friend reached out to her and asked her to come on a vacation to Greece with her. Colette makes the hard decision of choosing her ex-best friend or her boyfriend, who she's having rough patches with. Colette's decisions cause her to figure out who she is and what she wants and uncover the lies and truths about everything she knows.

Words cannot describe how beautifully written this book is. As a reader who isn't very sensitive when it comes to emotional books, this book had me sobbing at the intensity of it. Seeing Colette figure out who she is and distinguishing herself from what she thought she was opened my eyes and helped me see things in a different way. This book touches upon topics of what's 'forbidden,' how not everyone can be perfect or right, differences, and what really makes family and love.
