The Promised Neverland is a chilling mystery story that is portrayed in a fairytale-like orphanage named Grace Field House. At first glance, Grace Field House is shown as a perfect orphanage, where the children live happily under their caretaker whom they call "mama", Isabella. However, the deception of the beaming orphanage turned to be a complete lie when
Emma, Norman, and Ray, the main protagonists, figure out that the very place they called home was nothing but a slaughterhouse. Discovering the horrifying truth, the children are essentially raised as livestock to be harvested by demons when they turn a certain age. This revelation sets a tense stage for Emma, Norman, and Ray as they need to devise an escape plan for every child within the orphanage.
What makes The Promised Neverland interesting is the storyline's ability to balance its suspense with emotional depth. The first half of the story is well-known and praised by many fans across the world. It's known for building tension, leaving readers constantly questioning who will survive and how the children can possibly outwit their caretaker. The story expands the fantasy world Emma, Norman, and Ray live in, portraying more vital chapters that explore the peculiar setting of the story.
I found this series to be very compelling. I really like the way Emma was portrayed throughout the series. From start to finish, Emma's personality is defined by her compassion and optimism. She shows her deep care for the children at Grace Field House, treating them like family and refusing to abandon anyone. Even after she found out about the devastating news about the orphanage, Emma remains courageous and determined, insisting that every child deserves freedom.
Overall, I would highly recommend The Promised Neverland to anyone who loves to read a mix of mystery and thrillers. Personally, I highly enjoyed this series as it hooked me right away, and the amount of tension built between chapters made it more exciting to read.
