Book Review: Choujin X. 2

By Sui Ishida

4 Stars

Choujin X Volume Two picks up right after the events of Volume One and the major cliffhanger it left us on. With the onset of Tokio's new transformation comes a whole new slew of concepts and characters introduced in this volume. Tokio continues his dangerous encounter with a mysterious woman who seems to be a Choujin just like himself, but far more skilled and powerful. With new allies and just as many new enemies, the story of Choujin X continues to expand its brilliant setting and world. As I read chapter by chapter, I found that the story and characters just kept getting better. In some cases, the art was even more appealing, featuring interesting panel work and some seriously amazing artwork in general. In some scenes, the impact was almost in motion due to how well the artwork was done. Tokio's character grew on me a bit as he really stepped up during this volume, in contrast to the first. I genuinely believe this is one of those stories that seems to get better and better as more volumes come out, which makes this an amazing read. Upon comparing it to Sui's work on Tokyo Ghoul, I believe that while it may not be as amazing as Tokyo Ghoul, it is still absolutely worth reading and following. Overall, this volume was honestly better than the last, and as the story progresses, it seems to only get better from here. Sui Ishida continues to surprise me with the story of Choujin X, and I find myself once again excited to learn more about the Choujin and the world he has crafted. In summary, this was a well-deserved 4.7 out of 5.
