Movie Review: Freaky Friday

Directed by: Mark Waters

5 Stars

Freaky Friday is a movie about a dysfunctional mother and teenage daughter relationship. It is a great movie that uses the classic body swap trope and is a heart-warming film for all ages. The main characters are a strict, busy mother, Tess Coleman (Jaime Lee Curtis) and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lindsey Lohan). After the both of them have a fight, a mysterious force causes them to wake up in each other's bodies. They then have to navigate each other's lives and realize what the other goes through on a day-to-day basis. I love this movie. I have seen it several times because of its humour, relatability and heartfelt moments. Jamie Lee Curtis and Linsey Lohan both deliver amazing performances, perfectly capturing a hilarious and endearing mother-daughter relationship. The movie is beautifully written. It shows Tess having to adapt to the struggles of high school life and Anna having to manage her mother's busy schedule.

There are moments of self-discovery as the two characters have to understand each other's struggles. The movie is energetic and fast-paced. Throughout the entire movie, there are never any moments that seem slow or boring. Freaky Friday is a fantastic comedy movie. It has a heartwarming storyline showing the importance of family and friendship. It also shows the need to understand the other people in your life and realize how their struggles impact them. In my opinion, I think that this is the best movie with the classic body-swap trope, and it is much better than the original Freaky Friday (1976), and the newer one, made in 2018, was absolutely horrible. Overall, I would give this movie 5 stars. A great movie filled with laughs and heart-warming messages. Watch this on your next family movie night.
